Episode 164:

Dr. Mario

00:00 / 01:04

I don't know how Nintendo convinced all of us to accept the idea that Mario is a Doctor now, but they did it. And thank fuck they did, because this game is just...really, really good.

Dr. Mario might not be as iconic as Tetris, but to anyone that grew up playing it on their NES (or GameBoy), it's pretty damned close. From the multiplayer, to firing it right up to level 20, to that damned music; this is just a really special video game.

My fellow old-timer/comedian/podcast host David Rae joins me on the show this week, and we just had a really great time talking about a game that we both grew up loving. And playing with our parents, which isn't something I can say about another game. Long live Dr. Mario.

And before we talk about Mario's medical credentials, it's time for another edition of the 'Remember The Game Infamous Intro'!

This week, I offer some streaming advice to people thinking about taking the plunge. We play 'Desert Island: Video Game Edition'. And which is the better Splinter origin; a rat that becomes human, or a human that becomes a rat?

PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring retro puzzlers Solomon's Key, The Adventures of Lolo, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine!
